Texas Longhorn and Texas Aggies Rivalry

The Longhorns have been representing the Texas A&M Aggies in various sporting events. One of their most notable team is their football team. Throughout its history, the team has shown strength and dominance. Four Longhorns have won the Heisman Trophy. This is a recognition given to the best college football player. Aside from that, they have eleven Longhorn names in the College Football Hall of Fame while four in the National Football League Hall of Fame.

Aside from its Hall of Famers and multi awarded players, their rivalry with the Texas A&M University is also making noise. Others call the university A&M or TAMU. TAMU is a research university in Texas. Their football team is the Aggies. The team also has a rich history that started in 1894. Their runner back in 1957, John David Crow won the Heisman Trophy. Aside from that, they also have players and coaches playing for the National Football League.

The Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies rivalry is already a part of the football culture in Texas. The rivalry is beyond football. Even those who are not athletes have exiting rivalries among themselves. However, football is among the most popular sport in College and anyone from the state is fully aware of the matchup between the two.

They rank third in the most played football rivalries in Division 1-A. making it very popular among fans. The history of the rivalry is as old as the Aggies. They first battle it out in 1894. The Longhorns won. The Aggies would not win against the horns until their meeting in 1902 where the Aggies destroyed the horns at 11-0.
However, those were just regular meetings. They were just two teams wanting to come out victorious. In 1911, the course of competition changed. Aggies fans were not happy of their defeat. The real rivalry began that night.

Like in most rivalries, the Longhorns rejoice in every defeat of their opponents. The rivalry even gave birth to the Texas A&M Aggies Showdown. The name derived from the State of Texas, the Lone Star State. When the two teams meet in a sporting event, they keep track of who wins. Every time they win, they earn a point. At the end of the year, the team with the most points shall receive a trophy.
The rivalry between the Texas Longhorns and the Texas Aggies has influenced students and other member of the two universities. In fact, when you look at it closely, the students get to appreciate their school better when a game against the rival team is up coming. They seem to be more united than at times when their team is competing with just another regular team. You may be surprised at their reactions every time they win over the other. It seems like they have won a championship match.
